As an archetypal early high school weeb, I loved psychological horror anime. It’s something that doesn’t have a great one-to-one in American media. When prompted to make a TV bumper for a station of our creation, NOMENA was dreamt up.

NOMENA is an alteration of the word noumenon, objects that could exist beyond the human senses. The handlettered type is symmetrical, alluding to classic rorschach tests. To exude the feeling of specifically psychological horror, I utilized a wide range of digital colors that evoke CT scans as well as analog video effects.

To tie the project together, I brought in electronic musician nickly_d for the scoring. In their catalogue, we found a song that fit the late night eerie feel the visuals give, while also having an engaging pulse throughout.
